Details

The colors, forms, and symbols of Hungarian folk ornamentation have carried our identity and spirit across generations. The handcrafted enamel jewelry of the Tradition Collection draws from this abundant heritage, reviving the world of embroidered patterns, painted chests, and folk tales. Each piece is a gentle tribute to tradition — a memory sealed in an ornament, bridging past and present.

Matyó decorative art is known for its rich, dense patterns and vivid, warm colors. These motifs now come to life as enamel jewelry, preserving the character of folk tradition in a renewed yet faithful form.
This 925 sterling Silver enamel pendant, inspired by the iconic Matyó tulip, reflects one of the most beloved motifs of traditional embroidery and folk attire. A striking jewel for lovers of Hungarian folklore and folk-inspired accessories. It pairs beautifully with traditional clothing, yet complements simple, modern outfits just as well—bringing this vibrant, unmistakably Hungarian motif into everyday wear.

Bronze-based jewelry is shipped in a Weilan-branded paper gift bag, while our silver pieces are packaged in a sturdy paper box to ensure they remain perfectly protected during delivery.

When ordering enamel jewelry, the product will be made in the color shown in the photos. Please note that the actual color may vary slightly due to lighting conditions or monitor settings.
If you are purchasing a set (e.g. pendant and earrings), we recommend ordering the pieces together, as small shade variations may occur between items made separately.

The Living Heritage of Hungarian Folk Art

For centuries, the rich and diverse world of Hungarian folk motifs has been shaped by regional traditions, everyday life, and the symbols of faith. The patterns found in embroidery, woven textiles, painted furniture, and traditional attire served not only as decoration but also as carriers of stories and messages. Floral motifs, stylized animals, life trees, and geometric forms all became part of identity, celebration, and daily life. Through these designs, folk art preserves and passes down the collective memory and aesthetic spirit of the communities that created them.
Although the Matyó people began to distinguish themselves in the mid-19th century through their vibrant attire and richly colored embroidery culture, Matyó motifs and their distinctive forms are once again flourishing today, often appearing on modern garments — whether everyday pieces or festive wear.

The Matyó Legend

“They say many things in the village…
For as long as anyone remembers, the women have embroidered with colors and patterns handed down through generations—each stitch carrying its own tale. Matyóföld is made up of three neighboring villages, each practicing the same craft with its own twist: Mezőkövesd, Szentistván, and Tard. For centuries they have playfully competed for the most ornate Matyó pattern and the most colorful Matyó tale.
One ancient legend tells that the main figure in the story of Matyó embroidery is none other than the devil himself!
As the tale goes, a Matyó girl’s fiancé was carried off by the devil. Heartbroken, the young woman begged and pleaded until the devil finally said slyly: Bring me the most beautiful flowers of the meadow, and you shall have your beloved back.
But it was mid-January—frozen days, snow-covered fields. Though she dug through the snow and scraped at the ice, not a single flower could be found. She sat alone for days, mourning spring’s blossoms and her stolen love… until an idea came to her! She walked through the whole village, gathering colorful threads and white aprons from the women, and worked day and night. Through tears, she filled the aprons with the flowers of spring—roses, tulips, and peonies stitched everywhere—and brought them at last to the devil. The devil had no choice but to admit she had outsmarted him, and he returned her fiancé.
And from that day on, Matyó girls—and boys too—wore and still wear their richly embroidered aprons to keep the devil at bay.”
